Many people do not think dehumidifiers are all that necessary, especially those who own air conditioning units. While having an air conditioner (which can also act as a dehumidifier to some degree) can be better than having no dehumidifier at all, you might have to turn the thermostat up to uncomfortable temperatures in order to get the same dehumidifying action as a dedicated dehumidifier. As such you might find relief from the discomfort of high humidity but be uncomfortable in turn because of the cold. Using a dehumidifier with an air conditioner can allow you to turn the thermostat down and you can enjoy the best of both worlds!
